Lilly practiced alone in the gym on the afternoons that she noticed it wasn't being used. She thought it was the best place she could find since her current house had the furniture all over the place and she had no place left to practice but outside. Instead of the whole leotard and pointe shoes get up she usually wore when she practiced, she wore more casual dance clothes in case someone saw her. That way she could claim she was just passing through. She was alone in the gym, so she just hoped no one would notice at all, or interrupt. If they did, well, at least they'd either leave or it'd be an interesting conversation. She kept the lights off so that it would appear empty.
Lilly stretched in the silence while she looked around and spotted a radio in the corner. It was small and she brought no music with her, so she just played the first song on it. She lowered the volume when the music blasted out loudly, looking around to see if anyone heard. When she felt sure no one had, she got to work. She practiced all of her turns and jumps, worked on her extensions and footwork. She even took the time to work on floorwork and acrobatics because she hadn't been interrupted.
When a new song came on, one she didn't recognize, she decided it was the best time for her to start improvising. She could understand the beat of the song, even though it was a lot more modern than she was used to. She didn't look around the room as she moved. She just focused on dancing, breaking out every move she knew from every dance she'd studied. Her father couldn't afford entry fees to dance studios nearby. Only those that were super far away were in her budget and he couldn't drive her there every day. As much as she loved a good physical challenge, two miles to and fro' walking was not possible for her. It was not even worth trying. Stealing the gym when it was empty was her only chance of practicing for now, not that she was upset about that.
Lilly realized she could ask to join the dance team but considering how nervous she was about asking and how she didn't know what style of dance they danced, she was sure it was long shot. She couldn't walk in blind and refused to be made a fool of when it comes to dance. Lilly did a front aerial
and landed on her knees when the song ended. Panting hard, she walked to turn off the radio and finally decided she was done for the day since it'd been her first time dancing since she moved.
