This year, everything seemed to be changing. Clare Edwards was not the same girl that she use to be. She had begun to question her very own faith. That sounded so bad when said out loud, now doesn't it? But what did anyone expect? After everything that she had gone through. Her parents divorce. Her breakup with Eli. Dating Jack. Her mother dating. And then the worst thing of all. Finding out that her mother was getting re-married. And do you know to who? Jake's father. I mean, how could her mother do this? Of course, neither adult knew about Clare and Jake's relationship. But they soon knew about it. Because once Clare learned of the engagement, she told them that her and Jake were dating. Her mother had wanted the two to break up, but why would she? She did not want to. So, she told Jake that she would meet him at the Prom and then left. But nothing mattered. This night should have been the best night of her life. It should have been. But it was far from it. Jake broke up with her that night. He broke up with her at the dance. And Clare had been so devastated. She really thought that he cared for her. That he would not let their parents stand in the way of them being together. Guess she was wrong, however.
That was the last night she had actually spoken to Jake. Really, ever since then, she had been avoiding him. Even when he got back after Summer. It was hard. She still wanted to be with him. But that seemed like an impossibility now. It seemed that they were truly a chapter from her past. There was no hope for a future. The two were now step-brother and step-sister. And now it was a new school year. It was time to forget the past. It was time to just forget. And Clare wanted to try and make this the best year ever. She had to. She had to make this year really count. That morning she took a shower and got dressed for school and she grabbed her backpack. Clare had decided to just walk to school and left a little earlier than usually. She just needed a little time alone. It seemed harder now with a new step-father and a new step-brother. She just needed a little time to herself. And when she got to school, Clare had gone straight to her locker.
